The German
cabinet has approved a draft law banning cultivation of crops with genetically
modified organisms, reports Reuters news agency.
Germany
had announced in September, 2015, that it will ban cultivation of crops with
GMOs under new European Union rules allowing member states to opt out of their
cultivation.
There is no scientific rationale for banning genetically-modified crops, but the ban will be an effective trade barrier against Canadian corn, soybeans and canola.
So much for the Canada-European Union free trade agreement.
