A jury has convicted
Richard Vallieres for the Great Maple Syrup Robbery of 2012.
He took $18.7 million worth
of barreled maple syrup from the marketing board warehouse, replacing it with
water.
He told a jury at
Trois-Rivieres that he didn’t want to do it, but was forced by a man with a
gun.
But the prosecutor called
him one of the ringleaders.
Police arrested 26 people;
some have pleaded guilty, charges were dropped against some and five have yet
to go to trial in January.
Four others were convicted
with Vallieres, one of them a buyer from New Brunswick.
