Manitoba hit by PED

Manitoba’s chief veterinary officer says the province has had another outbreak of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus, this time in a sow barn in the southeastern part of the province.

It’s the first case since September and the 11th for the province.

By comparison, Ontario has had 101 outbreaks since the first one in January, 2014, and the most recent one was in Middlesex County in early March.

Although PED has been cleared from nine of the 11 barns infected in Manitoba, there remains a risk that PED is lingering in manure storage systems.
