Meat packer gets five-year tax break

Wichita, Kansas, is giving a five-year tax break for a huge bacon-producing plant expansion by the Dold Foods division of Hormel Foods.

It’s a $132-million, 156,000-square-foot expansion that will increase employment from 275 to about 650.

Council members unanimously to grant Hormel’s request and could add another five-year free ride on taxes when this one expires.

So where would Hormel have built if the company request for the tax breaks was denied to these corporate welfare bums?
