The province has added
another member to the body that oversees the Ontario Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals, bringing the total to 25.
The newest addition is
Melody Maleki-Yazdi of Toronto.
She will receive no
remuneration for her indefinite term of appointment, according to the website
for the Animal Care Review Board.
She was also appointed to
the Fire Safety Commission, also bringing its membership to 25 people. That
appointment is also for no pay and for an indefinite term.
Both bodies have generated
controversy in rural Ontario, the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty
to Animals for laying charges against a well-respected dairy farmer, the fire
commission for deciding in favour of inspectors who have shut down barn-party
facilities.
Maleki-Yazdi works at Deloitte Canada in the Legal
Project Solutions Group, prior to which she was an associate lawyer at Hope
Springs Fertility Law.
