Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay is heading to
Tennessee to promote an acceptable NAFTA deal during meetings from Friday to
Monday.
.
Also south of the border pushing NAFTA are Environment
Minister Catherine McKenna and Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale.
The next round of talks is scheduled for Jan. 23 to 28 in
Montreal.
Four hot-button demands put forward by the United States
were not discussed during the last round in Washington – that half of auto parts be produced in
the U.S., that the disputes-settlement clause be eliminated, that the deal be
up for renewal every five years and that Canada scrap supply management for
dairy and poultry farmers.
