Farmers are
on the sidelines as marijuana, the hottest cash crop in Canada, takes off.
It’s already
a mega-billion-dollar market and it’s dominated by corporate farms.
This week CanniMed
struck an agreement to be acquired by Aurora Cannabis Inc. for $1.2-billion.
Newstrike,
another big cannabis-growing company, had also tried to buy CanniMed.
And this
week, Statistics Canada said marijuana exports garner more than $1 billion a
year in revenue, and that’s only the beginning.
It won’t be
until summer that marketing marijuana for other than medicinal purposes will be
legal in Canada.
