Canadians are showing more confidence in the Canadian food industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The fifth annual edition of surveys conducted by the Canadian Centre for Food Integrity found a 12-point increase in public confidence that the food industry is headed in the right direction.
The report entitled Public Trust Research Report, Trends in Trust & The Path Forward details answers from the survey of 2,903 Canadians.
Forty-seven per cent said they are confident about the overall direction of the food system, the highest percentage in the five years of surveying.
John Jamieson, president and chief executive officer of the Canadian Centre for Food Integrity, said Canada’s food system stakeholders should be proud of their efforts throughout the pandemic, that has ensured Canadians uninterrupted access to healthy, Canadian-grown food.
Their main concern is the cost of food, with Canadians are most concerned about the cost of food with 51 per cent of indicating they have less money to spend on food, as a direct result of the pandemic.
