New Brunswick puzzled by brain disease

Health officials in New Brunswick are puzzled by 40 cases of an undiagnosed brain disease amongst its population.

Dr. Cristin Muecke said it appears similar to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. She is New Brunswicks’ deputy chief medical officer of health.

The Public Health Agency of Canada has also become involved.

Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease is also similar to Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE or mad cow’s disease) in cattle and Chronic Wasting Disease in deer.

The health officials have so far not speculated on any links to those animal diseases.
