JBS runs afoul of environment regulators

JBS in Brazil has run afoul of environmental regulators who have determined that 32 per cent of the cattle it bought in Pará state, in the Amazon region, came from "irregular" farms.

"Irregular farms” are properties located in areas in the Amazon with illegal deforestation, slave labor, invasions of environmentally protected and indigenous lands, or without environmental or land tenure regularization.

Brazilian beef processor Minerva S.A. achieved total compliance and Frigol reached 95.9 per cent compliance.
