The federal government said it has $75 million for the next three years to support the Canadian Foodgrains Bank operations to help poor people in poor nations.
The government often matches Canadian donations, many of them via church agencies, at $4 for every $1 donated.
The last long-term budget was $125 million over five years.
“Every child has a gift to offer this world and have an impact, but what they don’t have is the opportunity that we have here,” said Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development.
“We will help ourselves when we help these kids because you never know what kind of gifts these kids can offer this world, or to their community,” he said.
Among church-based fund-raising projects are farmers here growing crops that they donate and heifers donated for auctions.
