A man who worked with pigs in Manitoba has been infected with a new case of a variant H1N2 influenza A virus.
The case has been reported to the Public Health Agency of Canada in accordance with international health regulations.
Sporadic human infections with influenza viruses that normally circulate in pigs have occurred. When this happens, these viruses are called ‘variant viruses’.
This human influenza A(H1N2)v appears to be an isolated case, officials in Manitoba agriculture department said.
They said they see no need for alarm and think this case presents no threat to humans or food. So far the virus has not spread from this man to other people.
