NFU supports Mexico’s ban on corn

The National Farmers Union has come out if support of Mexico’s ban on imports of genetically-modified corn for human consumption.

That includes varieties that incorporate genes from bacteria that enable a crop be sprayed with glyphosate herbicides such as Roundup.

The United States has filed an appeal under the Canada-U.S.-Mexico trade agreement. The Canadian government is supporting the U.S.

“We, in Canada’s National Farmers Union, support Mexico’s decision, as we believe they have the right to determine their own food sovereignty, the NFU said in a news release marking corn day in Mexico.
