Trucks increasing environmental impact

Trucking is generating an increasing volume of emissions harmful to the environment and investment in infrastructure for converting to electrical vehicles is falling short, says Adam Thorn, director of the Pembina Institute’s transportation program.

He said medium and heavy trucks generate more emissions than any other sector, save oil and gas.

While carbon emissions from cars has declined slightly, trucking emissions continue to increase, he said.

The federal government has committed only 20 per cent of the $5 billion needed to build an adequate recharging network by 2030.
