Mexico fails to find cantaloupe salmonella source

Mexican officials have failed to find the source of salmonella bacteria in cantaloupes that resulted in seven deaths in Canada and four in the United States.

They have announced that tests at the plant that processed Malachita and Ruby brand cantaloupes found none of the salmonella.

A new analysis of water, product and surface samples in production and packaging plants will be carried out in February, the government’s health and food safety department said.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced recalls of the two brands in December and Mexico shut down the procressing plant.
