Chicken farmers aim to increase production in the spring.
The Chicken Farmers of Canada, which decides production volumes, has set the goal for production between March 8 and May 2 at 4.5 per cent above base quota.
For Ontario, it’s a 4.6 per cent increase to 79,283,480 kilograms.
The national chicken agency reasoned that demand will remain strong because prices for competing meats, especially beef, remain high and because the overall economy indicators are positive.
