Giving a new meaning to spent fowl

An anonymous donor is spending $50,000 to give 1,200 laying hens a better life.

They are heading out of Northern California for new housing on the East coast.

They are being flown in a cargo plane to a site in upper New York State and from there will be distributed to other sites, reports the Sacramento Bee newspaper.

About 200 are going to the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary in New York where they will have perches, grass and even a wooded area they can roam.
