Impossible burgers coming next year

A university professor who makes meat and cheese out of plant materials has been backed with $108 million to bring his products to market.

First will come the “impossible burger” next year, then other products from Impossible Foods Inc.

Patrick Brown, a biochemist at Stanford University, began the company in 2011. He researched how to separate proteins, fats and nuttients from grains, greens and beans and to combine them to make “impossible meats and cheeses”.

Bill Gates of Microsoft fame is one of the investors, Other are UBS, Horizons Ventures and Khosia Ventures.

"This latest financing ensures that we have more than enough runway to bring our first products to market," Brown is quoted by Meatingplace Magazine.
