China may accept U.S. beef

Good news for North American beef producers: China may soon lift its ban on U.S. beef imposed in 2003 after Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy was diagnosed in a cull cow that died.

The Chinese opened its market partially in 2006 to accept some boneless beef.

Now Philip Seng of the U.S. Meat Export Federation says China will soon lift all restrictions on U.S. beef.

The market is strong; it increased 10-fold between 2010 and 2015. Australia has been a major beneficiary.
