Manitoba pork packer expanding

HyLife Ltd. of La Broquirie, Man., plans to invest up to $125 million to modernize and expand its integrated pork production and processing systems.

Work is expected to begin next year.

As part of the plan, HyLife will add a second shift at its packing plant in Neepawa and will adopt
technologies to improve yields and processes and increase shelf life.

Hylife also plans to build new finishing barns and a feed mill. The province recently lifted its ban on new hog barns.

The investment is expected to create up to 165 new jobs, increasing its total employee base to about 2,000.

“HyLife’s investment into growing our Japanese and Chinese markets has been very rewarding,” said Hylife president, Claude Vielfaure.
