CFIA researching ASF in Vietnam

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is one of several sponsors of a study in Vietnam into using ropes hung in hog pens to gather saliva to test for African Swine Fever.

The aim of the research project is to determine whether this is a reliable way to conduct surveillance and detection programs.

The Vietnam University of Agriculture is leading the research which also has support from Iowa State University and the United States Department of Agriculture.

There are five other African Swine Fever research projects underway in Vietnam, including methods to decontaminate the interiors of livestock trucking equipment, determining the time and temperature required to kill the virus, determining whether composting deadstock can eliminate the virus and determining whether rodents can spread the virus.
