COVID-19 cases spike at Maple Leaf

Dr. Brent Roussin, the chief public health officer in Manitoba, reported the second-highest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases over the weekend – 42 – which included cases among employees of the Maple Leaf pork processing plant in Brandon. The number at the Maple Leaf Foods went from one on Wednesday to four by Friday, 10 on Saturday and 17 by Sunday evening.

Maple Leaf said its nation-wide total reached 23.

But the company is rejecting union requests to shut down and deep clean the plant as long as the rate in the outside community is the same as among its workers.

I imagine things might be different if the outbreak was among the Maple Leaf head office staff.
