Canada faces more meat competition in Mexico

Mexico has decided to continue allowing beef, pork and poultry imports without duties.

Canada had duty-free access under the free trade agreement among Mexico, the United States and Canada, but now faces competition, most significantly from Brazil and Europe.

But Mexico halted Brazilian pork imports in November 2023 when a court found procedural deficiencies in Brazil’s implementation of Mexico’s sanitary requirements. That temporary suspension remains in place.
