Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz took another jab at the
United States, this time at the World Meat Congress in China.
This time he criticized the U.S. for its Country of Origin
Labeling regulations and this time he had a global audience.
Last week he slammed the U.S. in an interview with a
reporter from Reuters News Agency.
So far the Americans have been diplomatically quiet in the
face of his verbal jabs.
“The bottom line is that partnership, not
protectionism, is the only way forward to meet the world’s growing demand for
protein,” Ritz said in opening remarks at the World Meat Congress.
He said Canada depends on export markets for
its meats.
Methinks Ritz ought to keep his trap shut and let the professionals handle trade negotiations and issues.
