The Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has hired Dr, Laura Eastwood to
be its swine specialist working from offices in Stratford.
Dr.
Eastwood has been working on swine nutrition at the Prairie Swine Centre in
Saskatoon after completing her PhD in 2013.
She grew up
in Burlington, studied animal biology at the University of Guelph and soon
after obtaining her Master of Science degree began her doctoral studies in
Saskatoon.
Her work
there focused mainly on improving piglet health through nutrition, and
determining strategies to mitigate the post-weaning growth lag.
She has
also looked for strategies to feed mycotoxin-contaminated grain to swine.
She will be
starting her new position July 13.
