Canadians stall on potash sales

Canpotex, the Canadian potash export cartel, is stalling on sales to China and India.

It will only deliver for the balance of this year, according to the head of Canpotex.

That’s because it anticipates prices will begin to rise.

Prices have been depressed since a similar export cartel between Russia and Belorus fell apart.

Belarusian Potash Co. has agreed to supply potash to India at the cheapest price in almost a decade.

The price was, however, still higher than market analysts anticipated and may be a sign that demand is increasing.

Canpotex is a cartel among Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan,  Agrium and Mosaic.

They have closed some mines and cut back production at others in an effort to drive prices out of the current slump.
