Niagara-area poultry quarantine lifted

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has lifted its quarantine established to prevent the spread of avian influenza from a duck-farming barn near St. Catharines.

The duck barn remains under quarantine and continues to undergo thorough cleaning and disinfection.

It will be eligible for resumption of business after it passes a 21-day period after the CFIA declares it satisfactorily cleaned and disinfected.

During the quarantine, about 30 poultry operations, including backyard flock owners, required a CFIA permit to move anything in or out of their properties.
