Olymel is going to discontinue pork butt boning at its plant at St.-Hyachinthe, Que., and look for alternative employment for 340 workers between now and September, 2017.
It will continue to use the plant for rendering, for lard production and for frozen storage. That involves 70 employees.
Pork butt boning will move to three of the company’s slaughter plants.
They are at St-Esprit, Yamachiche, Vallée-Jonction, Que.
In addition to maintaining rendering operations, Olymel is studying various options to find a new use for the plant.
The company will reassign employees to other positions or will relocate then to another Olymel facility.
