Jury awards $2 billion to Roundup user

A jury has awarded $2 billion US in damages to a California couple who claim Roundup caused their cancers.

The jury decided Bayer, which bought Roundup-maker Monsanto for $66 billion, is liable because of past failures to warn about the health risks.

The World Health Organization has decided that Roundup may potentially cause cancer.

The plaintiffs, Alva and Alberta Pilliod, used Roundup on their home property for about 30 years and recently both have been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

It is the third court award against Bayer. DeWayne Lee Johnson, a school custodian, won an award of $289 million, subsequently capped at $78.5 million, and Edwin Hardeman was awarded $80 million earlier this year.
