Trump hikes tariffs on Chinese goods

United States President Donald Trump made good on his promise to hike tariffs on about $200 billion worth of Chinese imports from 10 to 25 per cent today.

His move came in the midst of negotiations with top Chinese officials in Washington today.

The Chinese have said they will respond to the tariff increase, but have not said how.

Trump hiked tariffs today because he said the Chinese have not followed through on promises to honour U.S. intellectual property rights and stop currency manipulation.
