Maple Leaf workers vote to strike

Maple Leaf union members at its chicken-processing plant in Toronto have voted 98 per cent in favour of striking to back demands.

Their chief concern is severance pay when the plant is scheduled to close in 2021.

That’s when Maple Leaf’s $660-millionn investment in a plant in London is due to come on stream.

Plants in St. Marys and Brampton are also scheduled to close then.

There are 680 workers at the Toronto facility.
