Blockchain approach to livestock transport

Blockchain is included in a trial with Transport Genie Ltd. and the Canadian Animal Health Coalition to improve livestock welfare.

Trucks will be equipped with monitors for temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide and that information will be constantly available in the cab.

The driver will be able to activate misters and fans and ensure there is water in drinkers, all from the cab.

The trials on both short and long-distance hauls will also include monitoring of driving conditions and behaviour, such as braking and accelerating.

Transport Genie Inc. was involved in an announcement in Saskatchewan about three months ago launching trials for hog transport.

It also has launched trials in Switzerland for poultry transport.

There is federal-provincial financial support for the trials.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is introducing tougher transportation regulations..
