Leaders of Beef Farmers of Ontario were at Queen’s Park this week to lobby and thank provincial politicians.
On the thanks agenda were assistance to develop markets, to remain competitive and to join in export trade missions.
Top of the list on the ask side was an increase in risk management program funding for protection against rising market volatility, economic uncertainty, and inflationary pressure.
They also asked for the province to align its Provincial Animal Welfare Services (PAWS) Act with industry-approved standards of care; for continued investment in meat processing capacity, recruitment and training; and for the opportunity for agricultural expansion through the development of community pastures and Crown Land access in northern Ontario.
About 500 people attended the beef barbecue outside the legislature.
