Free soil tests in Golden Horseshoe region

The Greenbelt Foundation is offering free soil tests to farmers in the Golden Horseshoe region which includes Hamilton, Halton and Peel.

Next year it intends to expand the offer to farmers in Niagara, York and Durham regions.

Soil test information can be used improve profits, boost the strength of local food systems, and further Ontario’s ecological sustainability goals, the Foundation said.

The tests will be done by the Soil Health Institute.

Farmers can find out how their soils compare with similar soils in their region, learn how to improve soil health and measure and track what happens to soil health under differing management practices
