Lilydale fined $160,000

Lilydale Inc. has been fined $160,000 in a British Columbia court for animal welfare abuses.

Poultry were left exposed to cold weather at Chilliwack in January, 2012, and on Jan. 18 “Lilydale Inc. left chickens in transportation crates, outside in cold weather conditions, which resulted in avoidable distress and/or death,” says the Canadian Food Inspection Agency on its website.

Lilydale has other challenges on its hands now that listeria has been identified in processing equipment at its Alberta plant and it has issued nation-wide recalls of its chicken and turkey salads.
