Temple Grandin adds Webby award to her bulging trophy case

Temple Grandin and Colorado State’s social and digital media team have won a Webby Award in the category of Social: Education and Discovery.

The online project they were recognized for was an “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) session on the interactive website Reddit staged in November, called “Temple Grandin Talk to Reddit — Now Most Popular Science AMA. Ever.”

“Communications is a rapidly changing and fascinating business, and I am proud of … our team at Colorado State,” said Tom Milligan, vice president for External Relations at CSU.

“Clearly, Professor Grandin is a global thought leader, and our social media team shared her and our university with the world through this award-winning effort.”

Grandin’s Reddit AMA became the most popular and highest-rated session in Reddit’s Science section, receiving nearly 4,200 votes and generating more than 1,300 comments.

The Reddit session dealt with autism. Grandin, who is a leading researcher in animal welfare,  has learned to cope with her autism.
