Mercy For Animals videos large hog farm

Mercy For Animals has struck once again, this time against one of the largest hog-producing family-run businesses in the United States.

Christensen Farms & Feedlots of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, says the 4.5-minute video gleaned from undercover filming between November and February presents abuses taken out of context.

The Christensen family continues to run the farm it started and grew to 162,500 sows in six states.

They issued a news release saying they have recently introduced carbon dioxide for euthanasia and defending tail docking and gestation-stall housing.

Christensen has dismissed some of the employees depicted in the video.

Mercy For Animals has shot similar underground videos in Canada, including at the largest dairy farm, Chilliwack Cattle Company of British Columbia, and Hybrid Turkeys headquartered in Kitchener, Ont.

The Hybrid case led to the company dismissing a number of employees. It continues to face charges being dealt with in provincial court in Woodstock.
