Black raises questions about artisanal chicken

Glenn Black of Providence Bay is raising questions about the artisanal chicken program launched last month by the Chicken Farmers of Ontario marketing board.

Under that program, successful applicants will be allowed to raise up to 3,000 chickens per year without requiring quota.

Black starts by asking whether applicants who are not successful, or who withdraw, can return to their status as exempt small-flock growers free to produce up to 300 birds per year without quota.

He also asks whether quota holders can enjoy a 300-bird exemption to grow chicken for their own use and whether quota holders can apply under the artisanal chicken program.

That any a long list of other questions he is asking the marketing board are posted on his blog, Canadiansmallflockers.blogspot.com .
