California woman sues over GMO-free claim

Colleen Gallagher of northern California is suing the Chipotle restaurant chain over its claims that it can serve GMO-free meals.

She says the advertising is misleading because beef and pork included on the menu are raised eating genetically-modified corn in their rations and that the soft drinks contain corn sweeteners extracted from genetically-modified corn.

“As a result of Chipotle’s conduct, customers like Plaintiff [Colleen Gallagher] have been deceived into buying Chipotle’s food, or paying more for Chipotle products than they would have otherwise paid,” the lawsuit’s complaint said.

Gallagher, in the class-action lawsuit, seeks damages, restitution “and/or disgorgement of Chipotle’s profits,” as well as “injunctive and other equitable relief.”

What next? A lawsuit over hangnails?
