Purdue, MacAulay, Wynne meet

United States Agriculture Secretary Sonny Purdue met this week with Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay and Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne.

It was Purdue’s first foreign visit since being named agriculture secretary in the Trump administration.

None of those involved had much to say about their meetings, other than that they underlined the importance of trade to their farmers and agriculture and food companies.

The U.S. report said Purdue raised the issue of Canadian milk pricing to take back the market U.S. companies had opened for diafiltered milk; the Canadian news releases said nothing about that.

Perdue also participated in a celebration of the 10th year of the Southeastern United States-Canadian Provinces Alliance (SEUS-CP), an organization meant to foster mutually beneficial relationships Perdue helped found as governor of Georgia in 2007.

Perdue participated in a “fireside chat” regarding SEUS-CP with former Premier of Quebec Jean Charest.

Finally, Perdue attended the inaugural “tasteU.S.” culinary showcase of Southeastern United States products at the March√© M√∂venpick Brookfield Restaurant.
