Ken Murray dead at 95

Ken Murray, a giant in the Ontario agriculture community, has died. He was 95.

He was president of J.M. Schneider Inc. when it experienced its greatest growth in Kitchener.

After retirement in 1987, he was active in supporting many farm organizations and individuals. He was generous with scholarships and direct support for researchers, especially those working on food safety.

He served on a number of boards, including president of Homewood Health Centre and helping set up the Homewood Foundation and sitting on the Homewood Research Institute Board.

Among his survivors are his second wife, the former Marilyn Robinson and her daughter, Jane, who is a fellow journalist.

We had many interactions during my career as a farm reporter and I will always remember him as a fine gentleman.
