Smithfield closes Sioux Falls plant for cleansing

Smithfield Foods is shutting down its plant at Soiux Falls, South Dakota, for three days for “deep cleansing” after 80 employees tested positive for COVID-19.

The plant employs more than 3,700 workers.

Tyson Foods suspended operations at its Columbus Junction, Iowa, pork plant on Monday after more than two dozen cases of COVID-19 erupted at the facility.

Tyson is not commenting on union reports that two workers have died and many more are sick at two poultry plants at Camilla, Georgia.

Maple Leaf Foods has temporarily closed its poultry plant at Brampton for cleansing after COVID-19 showed up among its employees there.
