Exceldor strike is over

The month-long strike at Olymel’s Exceldor poultry processing plant is over.

About 550 employees who are represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers union achieved a six-year deal and pay increases of 19.75 per cent. Their vote was 66 per cent in favour of the deal.

It will take about 10 days to get the plant back to capacity; more than one million chickens were euthanized while it was closed.

Meanwhile, another strike by Olymel workers at a large hog-packing plant continues.
