Maple Leaf buying four Saskatchewan hog farms

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. announced it will be spending $27 million to buy and improve four hog farms in Saskatchewan.

Two are sow barns, two are nurseries capable of producing 140,000 hogs per year.

The company said the investment will secure additional supplies for its hog-packing plant at Brandon, Man.

The deal with Polar Pork is due to be completed a year from now.

It seems that money burns holes in Michael McCain's pockets. A few days earlier he invested $4 million in what is essentially the purchase of plant supply quota from Cericola poultry.
