Second Nfld. outbreak of avian influenza

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has confirmed the second outbreak of avian influenza in Newfoundland.

The first was at a exhibition farm in the Avalon Peninsula and resulted in the culling of more than 360 chickens and 416 birds.

The second is a backyard flock of 17 hens and ducks.

Officials now say they believe the infection came from long-distance migrating waterfowl.
