Canadian household income lags peers

Canada’s household income declined by 2.2 per cent in the first three months of this year, the worst record among G7 nations.

It also fared poorly compared with more than half of the members of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

For the third quarter in a row, real household income per capita has grown in the OECD.

Half of the OECD members posted in increase, the other half a decline.

The OECD said Canada’s numbers were driven in part by lower government transfers to households than in the previous quarter, when extra cost-of-living payments were made.
