Epp named to species at risk committee

Gary Epp of Stittsville, near Ottawa, has been appointed to a three-year term on the Committee on the Status of Species at Risk in Ontario.

The committee’s work sometimes impinges on what farmers can do with their land if the species need to have their habitat protected.

Epp is an ecology export working for the consulting firm AECON.

The committee’s role is to maintain criteria for assessing and classifying species, subject to the rules for classification, geographic limitation, and best available scientific information; maintain and prioritize a list of species that should be assessed and classified, including species that should be reviewed and, if appropriate, reclassified; assess, review and classify species in accordance with the list; submit reports and advice to the minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks.
