Senators want plant protein ban in schools

Senators Mike Rounds of South Dakota and Jon Tester of Montana have introduced a bill that would ban plant protein substitutes for meat from the government-fnded school lunch program in the United States.

Both are Democrats and are currying favour with livestock farmers.

“South Dakota farmers and ranchers work hard to produce high quality beef products," Rounds said. "With high quality, local beef readily available for our students, there’s no reason to be serving fake, lab-grown meat products in the cafeteria."
