Glenn Black of Providence Bay, Manitoulin Island, has lost
his final bid to gain an appeal tribunal hearing into his long list of
complaints about the Chicken Farmers of Ontario marketing board.
His final hope was an appeal to Agriculture Minister Jeff
Leal, but Leal has informed him that he won’t intervene.
The tribunal repeatedly told Black that it lacks the
jurisdiction to address many of the concerns he has raised and that some of
them would be better addressed as a class-action lawsuit.
The tribunal also told Black he ought to limit his appeal to
one issue – the chicken board’s policy that limits production by those who do
not hold quota to no more than 300 birds a year. Black sought to increase that
to 2,500.
Black said he is now busy with a client who has sought his
services as a management consultant.
