Cholesterol’s bad rap unwinding

The bad-cholesterol label applied to eggs, dairy products and red meats may soon be lifted by the federal government in the United States.

Based on new research that indicates the cholesterol content of these foods does not increase the risk of heart disease in healthy people, an advisory committee on dietary guidelines appears ready to recommend an end to the cholesterol advisories of the past.

It’s the United States Department of Agriculture that is responsible for issuing the dietary guidelines.

There is no word from Health Canada about reviewing its cholesterol stand that is part of its national food guidelines.
